Integrated Mental and Physical Health

We believe the mind and body are deeply connected and addressing imbalance can lead to improvement in the other. Our therapists work collaboratively with clients to explore how mental health challenges can impact the body and physical issues can affect emotional well-being.

Steps to Getting Started

Taking the first step toward therapy can feel daunting. At Open Door Counseling & Wellness, we prioritize creating a warm and welcoming environment where you can feel safe and understood.

1. Schedule a free consultation

Begin your journey by scheduling a complimentary consultation. During this 30 minute phone call, we will discuss your wants, needs, and expectations for your therapy sessions.

2. Your First appointment

Your first session can be virtual or in-person at our office. We will take the time to listen and understand your personal story, ensuring that you feel comfortable and supported as we work together to explore how therapy can benefit you.

3. Weekly Appointments

To achieve meaningful progress, we encourage you to attend sessions at least once a week for the first 4 weeks, allowing us to grow a strong and effective therapeutic relationship. After a month, you and your provider may decide to adjust frequency based upon such factors as schedule, intensity of issues, and level of confidence with using therapy tools out in the real world.

  • Yes, we currently accept the following types of insurance - Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Chorus Community Health Plans, Cigna and Evernorth, ComPsych, Medicaid, Molina Healthcare, Optum, Quartz, United Medical Resources (UMR), United Healthcare UHC/UBH, and Out of Network (OON).

    Please contact your insurance provider to ensure our services are covered under your specific plan.

  • Our individual sessions are billed at $225 per 60 minute session. Couples sessions are billed at $275 for a 60 minute session.

    These prices can be negotiable when paying with cash, check, credit card, or Health Savings Account (HSA).

    We currently accept the following credit cards: American Express, Discover, Mastercard, or Visa.  

  • The ways our moods, attitudes, relationships, health conditions, and other circumstances impact our mental, emotional, and physical well-being can change over time. As we travel across our lifespan, experience milestones, and recall certain anniversary dates and memories, we may look to professional support to help us get back or stay on track.

    Therapy sessions can provide an opportunity to receive an unbiased perspective on what you may currently be struggling with and/or striving for. When you are talking with a therapist, you can enjoy sharing your ideas and goals with someone who is open and willing to listen to your story.  Engaging with a licensed mental health provider can also mean you have the potential to solve your problems more creatively and efficiently, identify and cope with what you can control and what you cannot, and learn how to set, adjust, and maintain boundaries with self and others.

    If you would like to improve any of the following, therapy might be a good option for you:

    • Dissatisfaction with life, relationships, health, or work.

    • Inability to manage difficult emotional states - intermittent or chronic.

    • Disconnection with self or others and difficulty asking for help.

    • Ineffective social skills and/or discomfort with those known to me and strangers alike; problematic way of showing up in different public, social, and professional environments.

    • Ineffective communication skills.

    • Challenges with Identifying and achieving personal and/or professional goals, developing and following a plan; day-to-day task identification and completion, and managing finances.

    • Cognitive distortions or “faulty thinking” behaviors such as black and white thinking, anticipating the worst, or making assumptions.

    • Ineffective coping with pain from the past, negative childhood experiences, trauma, and/or triggers.

    • Low self-awareness with changes or difficulties that occur with sleeping, eating, exercising, physical discomfort, or various types of pain.

    • Low level of positive regard towards self - loving kindness, positive self-talk, and appreciation.

    • Difficulty coping with unsettling or confusing life transitions.

    • Dishonesty and lack of transparency with self and others.

    • Challenges with Identification of options.

    • Ineffective boundaries with self and others - setting, maintaining, and/or adjusting.

    • Difficulty with identification and practice of healthy hobbies.

    • Challenges with Identification, naming, and comfort with sharing emotions.

    • Lacking and/or fluctuating resilience across PIES - physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual.

    • Imbalances with work/life, reliance on self and others, giving/receiving, indoors/outdoors, and rest/activity.

  • Therapy sessions at Open Door Counseling and Wellness typically include personal history sharing, talk therapy, strengths identification, development and practice of safe coping skills, and resource gathering. What we talk about during your therapy session will largely depend on your comfortability, unique situation, and goals.

    What is talked about during your appointment can vary based upon your comfort level and unique situation. Depending on how you respond or react to memories of past experiences, as well as the goals you may be working on now, you and your provider may not actually talk much about your past.  Rather, you and your therapist may spend more time on practicing acceptance and forgiveness, using mindfulness to help you stay in the here and now, setting goals and making a plan, and developing a toolbox of coping strategies and other tools that can support you in moving yourself in a more functional direction.

    Conversations that occur during therapy sessions are treated with the utmost confidentiality. Counseling activities occur in a safe space, inside or outside of the clinic office, and provide an environment where you do not have to worry about hurting anyone’s feelings, being judged, or feel a need to withhold information or be dishonest.

    During your therapy session, your provider will take notes and work with you to put together a plan and identify the steps that may be required to meet your goals.

  • Yes. We currently see clients in person, virtually, or a combination of the two. Some clients like to come in person for their first couple of sessions and then switch to virtual, due to tight schedules, distance traveled, weather, or caretaking responsibilities at home.  

  • Our experience includes 8 years of therapy practice which includes private practice and inpatient and outpatient clinics.

  • We serve clients who are 17 years of age and older and offer individual, relationship, and group counseling depending on circumstances. In our current practice, we utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches and modalities that include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Gottman Relationship Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Person-Centered Psychotherapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Somatic Psychotherapy.
